banned bingo adverts

In my opinion, gambling is one of those taboo subjects that can often be portrayed very negatively, and I don’t think it has to be. Don’t get me wrong, I am not promoting gambling to the extreme and I think as long as you are in control, there is no harm being done. Obviously, if there is harm being done, then help should be sought. Again, in my opinion, I don’t see much harm in advertising bingo sites on television, as long as they are realistic. For example, if the advert states factual information about their site i.e. current offers and promotions, games on offer and other relevant information, I don’t see a problem.

I think where it does become a problem is where the sites advertise somebody on a luxury holiday after winning the jackpot of one of their main games! Now this is misleading! Of course you have every chance of winning a jackpot but I do feel this is not the right way to go about advertising your bingo site. More recently, Ladbrokes have had their TV adverts banned because it was reported that these adverts linked gambling to reckless behaviour. One of the adverts showed an adrenaline junkie jumping into shark infested waters which consequently led to his death and some other person saying ‘if only he had found Ladbrokes’!!! I understand how these types of adverts can be portrayed very negatively and I agree with them being banned but if I use Cheeky Bingo as an example, their advert is absolutely fine. It’s quirky, honest and over in a matter of seconds. I don’t believe there is much harm being done with this one.
